Wildwinds are over  02.06.2010

The 2010 Margarita Wildwinds are over. Instead of wild hauling winds as in 2009, this year the wind denied to play game. Clowdy skies and rain let the Competitors stay at the Beach, ready for Interview Sessions and some Wakeboarding. At least few Slalom Races could be held and the winner of the Slalom Competition is PWA Pro Rider from Argentina Gonzalo Costa Hoevel, followed by dutch Pros Peter Volwater and Ben van der Steen.

The Kitesurf Slalom Races saw brazilian Elias Seadi as winner in front of El Yaque Local Leo Estredo

Wildwinds waiting for wind  29.05.2010

After the Wildwinds revival in 2009 at Playa El Yaque, the second edition of the new Wildwinds has started the 24th of May, with many international Competitors having come to the Island of Margarita, the Top Sailors of the PWA Worldcup Series like Ricardo Campello, Gollito Estredo, Peter Volwater, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel or Ben van der Steen surely are the favourites and indeed are leading the Slalom fleet. Only once the Sailors have been able to race around the course so far since the weather doesn´t want to play game until day number four.

Margarita Wildwinds are - ON  25.05.2010

One of southamericas biggest Windsurf and Kitesurf Contests, the Margarita Wildwinds have started. With Windsurfers not only arriving from all over Latin America, also some Pro Sailors inscribed for the Slalom Races and Freestyle Shows, El Yaque gets in the focus. A whole week of Windsurf and Kitesurf Action is what will follow.

Shampam closed  08.05.2010

Great Life Acts, cool Beach parties, Movie Nights and the biggest Semana Santa Party for the venezuelan rich and beautiful same as for the El Yaque People, that was the Shampam Bar of DJ Irak. Unluckily after some indeferences the Bar had to close last week.

Estredo finishes third at PWA Austria  06.05.2010

El Yaque Local and actual Windsurf Freestyle Worldchampion Gollito Estredo finished in third place at the first Tour Stopp of the Professional Windsurf Association PWA at Lake Neusiedel in Austria. The first four days of the five days Competition saw the best Windsurfers in the world waiting for wind before at very early hours of the final day the wind kicked in and made the Competition in still very light winds possible. Estredo made his way all up the ladder to the semi final where he lost against belgium Steven van Broekhoven, who in the end finished second behind Bonaire Local Taty Frans. For Estredo the third place is a good start into the 2010 season since the next more windy Stopps will fit more to his style.

About real bad luck  26.04.2010

In a really great windy season at El Yaque Beach 2010, some people surely have been very unlucky. Those who spent the past three weeks in the little village, expecting nothing less than a very high wind quote, had to deal with the worse time of the year, clowdy skies, a little rain and very few wind, just before an european Volcano decided to blow some ash in the air and make those people stay even longer in non windy El Yaque. The Ashclowd disappeared, together with those pretty unlucky people, and the wind is back at full strength

Independance Day   23.04.2010

Around 11.000 people came to celebrate the becentenary independance day of Venezuela, when Simon Bolivar liberated the country from the spanish. As act of the celebration the sword of Bolivar was handed over to the villages and so also the El Yaque primary School celebrated the act, with a horse riding Simon Bolivar handing over the sword. The act took place Thursday morning at the El Yaque Plaza

Flights from Europe  22.04.2010

Wednesday night the waiting was over, with the first international flight from Europe arriving at Porlamar Airport to get all people who were stucked here for almost one week and waiting to leave finally. Now the normal flight plans should be back on track and tourists won´t need to worry about their flights and concentrate on a good and nice holiday in the Caribbean

Kite weeks El Yaque   21.04.2010

Durinmg the past two weeks, the wind regret to blow strongly in El Yaque, the sky was covered by clowds and the first rain of the season came down to the little Village. At least the windspeeds let the kitesurfers on the water to have some fun and El Yaque Beach became a Kitesurfers only place for a couple of days, before the wind finally started to blow a bit stronger again to please all present wind addicted sportsmen

Tourists still on hold  20.04.2010

The Ashclowd over Europe still affects most El Yaque tourists as well. With some flights having been cacelled in the past days, the amount of tourists waiting for their flight back home and work is growing. But with some flights departing from several european Airports now it looks like there´s some hope for the flights arriving also at Porlamar Airport in the next couple of days

Gollito Estredo at st Martin  19.04.2010

El Yaque Local and three times Windsurf Freestyle worldchampion Gollito Estredo visited the Island of St Martin in the northern Caribbean Sea for the big Wave Show. Here the full Event report :

CANOA getting known  18.04.2010

Those people, who never take a walk upwind at the small El Yaque Beach, up to the Kitezone, might still not know the recently opened Restaurant Canoa. To change this situation, the Canoa just started with some nice evening Events with Live Music, Burger Happy Hours and much more. Another nice place you should have checked out during an El Yaque stay

Tourists stucked  17.04.2010

The immense Ash Clowd all over Europe, which was caused by mayor eruptions of the Volcano Eyjafjallajökul at Iceland, affected more countries and their Airports as expected. So far all mayor europian Airports had to be closed and more than 17.000 flights per day cancelled. Tourists who were expecting to leave the Island of Margarita and those who were expecting to start their holidays this weekend at the Caribbean Island are stucked at the airports or had to stay longer at their holiday destination. When exactly the clowd might have disappeared and the Airplanes will be able to leave their actual Airports is still open

Ash Clowd affects also El Yaque  16.04.2010

The immense Ash clowd over northern Europe, produced by the Eruption of an Volcano in Iceland, also affects the tourism in El Yaque. Many northern european Airports have been shut down, no planes landing or departing and so of course also all planes leaving to Venezuela. At one of the mayor travel days for El Yaque, this friday, it is still not clear if the airplanes will leave the european airports or not. The Ash clowd is still moving south and so even more countries and airports might get affected. An Airtraffic Chaos like this has never happened before in history

Medical Center  14.04.2010

The El Yaque Medical Center is finally working again. A New Doctor will be available at the "Ambulatorio" at the El Yaque Mainroad, next to the elementary school. The Ambulatorio has been built some years ago but wasn´t occupied all the time, while the french El Yaque Doctor in the Hotel California had to deal with all injuries or emergencies alone.

A proper touristical place  12.04.2010

El Yaque is surely well known as one of the windiest places during wintertime and a touristic place for wind addicts only. Year after year right after the easter week, when party crowds and most Wind and Kitesurfers have left the Village, El Yaque shows its second face. With the summer getting closer, the days longer and even more sun throughout the day, the colours seem to change much more caribbean like, the few people taking sunbathes in the morning and Windsurf or Kitelessons in the afternoon make people feel like in a proper touristical place, very much enjoyable, quiet and for easy cruising windsports.

Margarita Wildwinds 2010  11.04.2010

After the Wildwinds revival in 2009, the 2010 Windsurf and Kitesurf Competition in El Yaque is coming closer and so the official Margarita Wildwinds website just went online for all Information about the Pro Am Contest  www.margaritawildwinds.com

El Nino - part II  10.04.2010

Already in December El Yaque News reported about the weather phenomenon El Nino, which usually ocuures every 4 to 5 years, when the water surface of the Caribbean Sea doesn´t warm up as much as normal and wind same as water currents change and cause droughts at the eastern part of Southamerica and Central America. Now Metereologists started to talk about a second type of the El Nino, caused by global warming and coming from the eastern pacific ocean towards the caribbean. The actual weather situation in latin America seems to proof that theory, with changing weather now in april, hard rainfalls at both coasts, the west and east coast, floods in Ecuador, Chile but also Brasil and Venezuela. El Yaque lives under a clowd cover already for almost two weeks, which doesn´t let a normal wind come through and has hardly been seen before

From high to low  07.04.2010

As a touristic place certainly El Yaque has to deal with various high and low seasons. The change from very high Season during Semana Santa, where every single room at the Island of Margarita seems to be overbooked, to low season right after the easter week is a very drastic one. From one day to the next the people vanished and only vew Wind and Kitesurfers remain at the now large looking beach. Usually it lasts around two months before the national tourists decide to come back to their Island and to fill up the hotels. Lower flight and Hotel prices now bring more european tourists back to El Yaque for a couple of weeks, right before the Margarita Wildwinds assure another high season week

The Kite Corner  06.04.2010

Besides the daily news, 1498 El Yaque News is always up to inform about the Village and the people living and working in El Yaque. Today it is all about the Core kitesurf Center Pro Kitegua :

In the Kitesurf Corner, the launching area for the Kitesurfers, a small Kitesurfer Center opened his doors in 2007 and since than kept on growing. Pro Kitegua, the Core Kitesurfcenter now not only provides Kitesurf Lessons and Supervisions,Daytrips for Kitesurfers, Travels to Los Roques, Canaima and Tortuga and the Pro Kitegua Shop have become part of the still growing business

The Semana Santa Resume  05.04.2010

It is THE week of the year, people in and outside El Yaque talk about the famous Semana Santa all year long. Some like it, others really don´t like it and for some it is just also THE business of the year. The first very full Semana Santa weeks have been in the years 2003 and 2004, when El Yaque was pushed to be the number one Party place for the easter week. What followed was pure chaos also in the years after, with way too many people and cars for the tiny little village. Now, with soem years of experience, some things have changed, much more parking lots, a second exit road, the military observing the Beaches and the private security service making a really good job. Already in 2009 a little less people had come to visit El Yaque for the mayor parties and in 2010 again less people drove their way down to the very south of the Island of Margarita. Only at the Shampam, El Yaque Paradise and Cafe Local Bars the party has been celebrated, mostly after 5 p.m. while in previous years it last all day long. Possibly the Wind and Kitesurf Centers will not even be forced to close their gates during the easter week in the future

Semana Santa is Shampam ??  04.04.2010

The easterweek "Semana Santa" used to be THE Party week of the year. Already in 2009 more and more families instead of Party people came to El Yaque Beach to enjoy a week at the Beach, watching the Wind and Kitesurfers. In 2010 the Party is located at one point, the Shampam Bar rocks the Beach together with Venezuelas Top DJ´s like Hip Hop DJ Colly, DJ Ele, DJ Nano, DJ Vic. Mendez and Shampam Owner DJ Irak and the who is who of Venezuela move their hips to the beats together with the rest of the crowds

Cartagena Kite Contest  03.04.2010

One more time the El Yaque wind athletes prooved why they are considered some of the best in the world. Top Kiteboarder Aquiles Zabala, who was sent to the Colombian Kitesurf Competition in beautiful Cartagena by the Shampam Bar, Solokite Shop and the Margarita Extreme Kitecenter, paid it all back by winning the Freestyle Category . With not too strong winds and some small winds Zabala managed to perform at his best and leave his opponents behind

Stucked  02.04.2010

What would be the best to do after a long day at the Beach with quite some alcohol an lots of music and party ? Stucked in the traffic might not be what people think of exactly after a sunny Beachday and only hours before the Party continues in the City of Porlamar, but that´s normal Semana Santa life at the entire Island. The Security service and police working extra hours to avoid chaos as much as possible, some people partying in the traffic while others try hard to find new ways out of El Yaque, by destroying some of the nature and it has all just begun. Between friday and sunday it will be the peak of the Party and chaos week.

New Restaurant  01.04.2010

At the end and very windward side of El Yaque, right in front of the Kite launching area, a new Restaurant has just been opened two days ago. With the CANOA another nice Restaurant can be visited in the little village. The exquisite ambience right at the Beach surely will be a very good place for lunch or dinner while watching the Kitesurfers flying in front of customers eyes

Nuclear festivities  31.03.2010

No secret, el yaque has been windy the entire season, very windy. But what´s happening at the moment exactly during the easter festivities is somehow spectacular. Hauling winds, flying sand and water and Party tourists who can´t blame their balance problems only on their consum of alcohol. Even for the wind addicted tourists the actual windspeeds are kind of too strong and other Locations than El Yaque are being researched and checked for a little less wind and more fun, while the El yaque Pro Sailors just enjoy those windforces for their own show right in front of the party crowds

Yaqueros bring home the Cups  30.03.2010

All El Yaque Pro and Amateur Windsurfers went to Puerto La Cruz on the venezuelan Mainland for the past weekend, where another national Windsurf Cup took place.  Once Again the Yaqueros prooved that they are still the Top of the Top in venezuelan and also international Windsurfing, by bringing home all Cups in the Pro Categories. alexis Carache won the Pro Slalom with Gollito Estredo in second and Ricardo Campello in third, while Estredo once again one the Freestyle ahead of Campello

Semana Santa predictions  29.03.2010

The predictions for the Semana Santa given out by the national tourism board show that this easter week might become one of the most crowded so far for the Island of Margarita and the fully booked Ferries, Airplanes and the chaos at the Ferry ports and Airports already that early of the easter holidays could be the proof the predictions might come true

1498 Pics of the week  29.03.2010

During the past week the second main road in el Yaque has been partly built, the wind has blown as usual in 2010 and 1498 El Yaque News visited the Island of Coche and his famous Kite Spot in the Bahia de San Pedro. Here now the Pics of the week ...>>>

Semana Santa - the Party locations  28.03.2010

Slowly the Easter holiday week has already started, with the ferries and airplanes completely booked out and the beaches seeing more people than usual. Within the next two days the PArty week should start at full throttle, also in El Yaque, but where to go ? Actually the entire beach will be one big Party Scene, but especially the Sharks Bar, The Cafe Local, The Ipanema Chill Out and of course the VIP Shampam Bar will hold some mayor Events during the week

1498 at Isla Coche  27.03.2010

El Yaque News went to the Isla of Coche for a couple of days, to newly explore the beauty of also this venezuelan Island in the Caribbean. Surely regarding watercolours, the beaches, the style of the hotels and the people one can feel the caribbean feeling indeed. What can´t be missed at Isla Coche is the big amount of Kitesurfers of course. Not only the El Yaque Kitecenters go to the San Pedro Bay for Day Trips, many Kitesurfers and Pro Riders decided to stay for a little longer at the perfect Flatwater Spot in front of the Coche Kitesport Center. Even for non watersport enthusiastics the Island is alwways worth a short visit

Pre Easter activities  24.03.2010

Roads get repaired or even built, Beaches cleaned, parking places built and enlarged, little Snack Bars moved to almost each Corner of El Yaque and the small Supermarkets, the Bodegones, filled up until the Roof with fresh Beer and Tons of Rum. The whole Village and the Island are getting ready for the Semana Santa, whichg means party and party and more party for a couple of days. 1498 El Yaque News of course will report directly from the Beach and provide the daily images...

Climbing the Killer Mountain on Friday  24.03.2010

Due to some necessary change of the Pro Riders Schedule, the Top of Killer Mountain will wait for the Riders to come up there already on friday the 26th in the early morning hours.

Killer Mountain Challenge coming close  23.03.2010

The Killer Mountain Challenge is coming closer, Sunday the 28th of March amateur and Pro Riders will search their luck and need their skills to make the way up the Killer Mountain between El Yaque and The Santiago Marino Airport. Al and Nora organized the event and so it will also start sunday morning 6.00 a.m. at their place and ends with the pricegiving at the Chiva Loca Restaurant

Joy and hassle with the hauling winds  22.03.2010

Windspeeds of 35 knots and more were measured the past days in El Yaque, the water was flying and the Kite and Windsurfers pushed to their limits. Most Riders surely enjoyed the power of insanely moving air, while others tried to get on the Boards in the early morning hours, where the wind still was a bit more forgiving. The Softball players of the second El Yaque Softball tournament which took place on sunday same as the owners of various Restaurants certainly had some problems with Balls flying in very weird curves and Plates moving on the tables. March has always been one of the strongest wind month in El Yaque and so it is also in the 2010 Season.

Second Road for El Yaque  21.03.2010

On time for the Party week, the Semana Santa, which will start within a few days again and bring thousands of national tourists into the small village, a second main road is under construction to minimize the mayor traffic jams which usually occur each day not only the Semana Santa but also at the peaks of the national holiday seasons. In future the main road will be used as entrance and the new second road as exit of El Yaque

1498 at Coche Island  20.03.2010

The Storm Alert for Venezuela came true, hauling winds and a decent swell also hit the Coastlines of Isla Margarita and El Yaque, while also the Kiteboarders at the famous Isla Coche Kitebeaches had to fight with their smallest Kites. Very fast Windspeeds also built some Waves along the Beaches at Isla Coche, while 1498 El Yaque News visited the Island opposite of El Yaque

El Yaque goes Colombia  18.03.2010

During the next couple of days the colombian Kiteboarding Championchips 2010 will be held in the beautiful and windy city of Cartagena in the north of Colombia. A couple of venezuelan Riders will be part of the Contest as well and for El Yaque the two Top Riders Akiles Zabala and Brunaski Carrillo juts took off Porlamar Airport to bring back the Cup in ten days.  The Shampam Bar, The Solokites and Slim Shop and the Margarita Extreme Kitesurf Center came together to make the Trip for Zabala and Carrillo possible

El Yaque Construction Side  17.03.2010

While Investments in Venezuela have slowed down dramatically in some parts of the country, El Yaque is just living kind of a constructions boom. In the none touristic part, the "Zona Residencial", many new constructions have started in the past two months and thousands of squaremeters of land been sold. The small village seems still be interesting and just keeps on growing

Storm and Wave Alert  16.03.2010

For the venezuelan Coastlineincluding the caribbean Islands of Venezuela a storm and big wave alert was given out for the next weekend. The strong winds and mayor swell could arrive at the coasts already on thursday. What makes normal sunbathing toursits nervous certainly puts some neverending smiles into Wind and Kitesurfers faces. Not always those alerts really come true and end up in a quite disappointing small swell with for El Yaque normal windspeeds, but still the forecasts looks pretty solid and the action on the water could become a little more extreme in the next couple of days

Talent Zabala  15.03.2010

One of the biggest talents in Windsurfing El Yaque had in his short windsurfing history surely was Alexis Zabala, one of the young guns in Freestyle, who moved his sails with the Sailnumber V 41 in front of the crowds of various international Competitions and Worldcups, before he decided to stopp competing and work at his home place, El Yaque. In December Alexis, nickname "Frijol", opened his own Windsurf and Kitesurf School at El Yaque Beach, the "Frijol Wind and Kitesurf". Still he can be seen almost daily on the water, performing the latest Freestyle Moves in perfection

White Party  14.03.2010

Saturday night - Party night, so it is also in El Yaque, where each Saturday not only the Beachbars serve the tourists and locals. This Saturday the Ipanema Beach Bar realized the "White Party" and even if not all guests really joined the white theme, the atmosphere has been very nice and "chilly", just right as warm up for some people who planned a night out at the Porlamar Diskoteques

Kite - and Windsurf Sunset Festival  13.03.2010

The Margarita Extreme Kitesurfcenter together with the Shampam Bar and DJ Irak organized a nice Sunset Windsurf and Kitesurf Festival at the Margarita Extreme Kitesurf center. Unluckily the wind was a little low for the Windsurfers so the Kitesurfers made their Show for the people on the El Yaque Pier, while some nice Cocktails, Champagne and Snacks were served and DJ Irak played some great music until dark

Freshwater in Trucks  11.03.2010

It´s always good to be trained. For many years the El Yaque Freshwater was supplied by  Trucks, no waterpipeline really worked and the hotels, and private houses had to call for water when needed. In the early morning and also throughout the day it looked a little weird when one truck after the other went into El Yaque to fill up the reservoires. The cause is the broken pipeline between El Yaque and Porlamar which needs to be fixed quickly. After the extreme drought in Venezuela througout the entire year, freshwater is not something you might want to loose and just spray onto the roads and the water trucks are not the cheapest neither, but at least the supply works very well and nobody needs to miss a nice shower after coming back from the salty sea

Mountain Bike Challenge in El Yaque  10.03.2010

The 28th of March a very unique Challenge will take place in, or better close to, El Yaque : The Killer Mountain Challenge ! Organizers and Bike Guides Al and Nora invited ten international Pro Riders and a bunch of El Yaque Mountain Bike heroes to see who might be able getting all the way up the Killer Mountain which is located between El Yaque and the international Airport of Porlamar and indeed is a Challenge. After a Pro Massage for all Riders after their rides, the King of the Hill will be crowned at the "La Chiva Loca" Restaurant at El Yaque Beach. 1498 will report about the Event, of course !!

Heat Waves  09.03.2010

A tropical Heat Wave heat the coasts and land of the Island of Margarita during the past days and nights. The high pressure zone in the center of the caribbean sea, surrounded by an army of low pressure zones interrupted the Tradewinds and send a wave of immense Heat to the southern Caribbean, the wind was paralized for a couple of days which made the heat feel even more intense. Until Tuesday afternoon the weather system should have cleared up to let the Tradewinds pass through and cause some joy not only on the water

Softball Competition  08.03.2010

The daily Softball Training at the El Yaque Softball field, close to El Yaque´s Mainroad, in tha past weeks didn´t pay off for the El Yaque Team. During the Sunday afternoon Softball Tournament between some of El Yaque´s neighbor villages, the closest neighbar of Los Bagres took home the Cup while the freshly created El Yaque Team was standing behind with hands empty. Softball, a direct descendant of Baseball, is played on a shorter field and with a larger Ball than Baseball and is one of Venezuelas most common Sports and now also has arrived at the windy Place of El Yaque

1498 Sunday Report

Sailing to Kite  07.03.2010

Especially for the Kitesurfers the small Village of El Yaque is not enough to explore and for some Kitesurfers a bit too choppy, which makes them explore the entire Island of Margarita and the Isla Coche for some new Spots.

Something completely different indeed are...>>>

Movie night under Palmtrees part II  06.03.2010

For the second time this winterseason the Four Dimension Movie, the latest Windsurf Movie including the two Worldchampions Gollito Estredo and Marcilio Browne and wave Guru Victor Fernandez, was shown at the Shampam Bar under the Palmtrees, but this time producer Andre Paskowski himself was present, answering questions and giving some autographs together with Gollito Estredo

Another Champ is back  05.03.2010

German Andre Paskowski, multiple german and european Windsurf Freestyle Champion, can almost be called El Yaque local. Year after year the blond german producer of the 4 Dimension Windsurf Movie visits El Yaque for his Wintertraing and hang out with his friends such as Gollito Estredo and Ricardo Campello and get prepared for the upcoming seasons. Last week Paskowski arrived again in El Yaque to spend some weeks on the caribbean waters before leaving to Maui / Hawaii

Amount of Streetdogs decreasing  04.03.2010

Streets animals are certainly not a venezuelan problem only, dogs and cats in very bad estates can be found everywhere in the world and so it was also at the Island of Margarita and surely still can, but the number of Street dogs and cats has drastically decreased, thanks to many foreign organisations taking care of those animals, trying to get them decent homes and getting them castrated and sterilized. Still some of the poor animals can be found also in El Yaque sometimes and luckily find their new owners in the windy village

Searching the Flat  03.03.2010

It´s march and as usual, the wind blows harder and harder each day, sometimes too much for some people who are just not used to the strong winds and the more choppy waters. A daytrip to Coche might help out, in only 15 minutes by Boat the Flatwater Spot of the San Pedro Bay can be reached easily, where pure Flatwater is waiting and the wind is not hauling as strong as in El Yaque, surely Isla Coche is always worth a Day Trip. The Kiteboarders have discovered the place already years ago and also many Windsurfing Clinics have been held along the pure white sandy Beaches
