The Big Cleaning

After a big mess was left behind from the Semana Santa tourists, contaminated Beaches, tons of garbage just anywhere and kind of pure chaos all over the Island, the big cleaning has started by those who live in El Yaque and enjoy their clean Beach and pure nature. The El Yaque kids took part in the cleaning, as part of their education, to understand what´s right and what´s not. Of course it would be much nicer when people would arrive to Margarita to enjoy their holidays, the Island and its beautyful beaches with more conscience and would care more about their behaviour

Semana Santa 2011

It is Semana Santa again, the maybe most popular week of El Yaque, the week, when thousands of people invade the small village, some to share a nice time with their family, most with only one goal, Party !!!  And the Party has just begun, already at yesterday´s sunday the beach has been invaded by party willing people, which will continue with more and more people getting to El Yaque throughout the week. some new rules, as every year, have to be respected in El Yaque during this, some call it "Crazy week". A swimmers area has been created with marks, to protect the swimmers from windsurfers, Kayaks etc. or the possibly to protect the Windsurfers etc. from drunk swimmers. Life wests have become mandatory for all using Kayak, SUP´s (!!), and other vehicles...

Lifeguards are present all the time to protect those new rules...  for the windaddicts we can only say that luckily there is no wind.....  the beach is just to overcrowded to get into the water or enjoy an easy session anyway, as usual in Semana Santa

The big quiet coming soon

It is almost all over, the Semana Santa Party week, which most people expected as a very very crowded week at the entire Island and it almost came worse. Traffic Jams around the clock and well overcrowded Beaches, Shopping Malls, Bars and Restaurants. The entrance to El Yaque was closed by the Guarda Civil past thursday already short after midday, as all parking places and streets were packed with cars and still too many people were heading towards the little Village, waiting for hours in the over heated cars to possibly yes enter the Village and join the massive Beach Party with Live Acts and DJ´s all day long. By beginning of the coming week it will all be over and the big quiet will start, as the season stopps with the end of Semana Santa, only few tourists usually find their way to El Yaque after April, even if all Windsurf and Kitesurf Centers remain open to provide good services to all those who still wish to spend some time in the Caribbean

Another rainy Season

Only a couple of weeks ago just like anybody thought the weather situation in the Caribbean has been normalized and the wind would be back for good now. Well, it all last exactly 3 weeks, 3 really windy weeks where the sun was shining and the windforces were even too strong for many people sometimes. Now, with the Semana Santa high season knocking on the door, the weather of the past months has returned, the wind only comes with some little stormy rainshowers and grey skies dominate the ambience. It really seems as the 2010 / 2011 winter season has been a very very short one

Time of Preparation

El Yaque and Yaqueros getting ready for specific seasons

Carnival high season is over and the entire Island of Margarita is already in its last steps of getting prepared for the next massive storm of tourists, for the legendary party week of Semana Santa, the easter week. In 2011 it will be more than one week, as another weekend falls right into the holidays and so most venezuelan Party tourists will enjoy their celebrations for much longer. El Yaque might get one of THE Spots to be, most publicity is pointing towards El Yaque as hot and VIP Spot. Don´t expect less than a fully overcrowded time again at easter time.

A completely different preparation is being done by the El Yaque watersports heroes like Gollito Estredo, Yoli de Brendt, Deivis Paternina, Ricardo Campello or Diony Guadagnino in Windsurf and Aquiles Zabala in Kiteboarding. While 4 times Freestyle Worldchampin Estredo, Paternina, women vice worldchampion de Brendt and Zabala get prepared for their next Freestyle Worldcups in El Yaque and at some national Competitions at the venezuelan mainland, Guadagnino chose the Hawaiian Island of Maui again for his Slalom and Wave Training while current Wave vice Worldchampion Campello (Foto) travels the Top Wavespots of the world to get as many different Conditions as possible and to get some amazing Video Shots for the Movie "Minds Wide Open"

Hauling winds now in El Yaque

It is the main reason why tourists find their way year after year to the small caribbean village of El Yaque at the Island of Margarita, the wind. But in the winter season 2010 / 2011 the windsystem denied to work as usual, just too much rain fell at the Island and a very unstable weather system in the Caribbean and at the Atlantic Ocean stopped the remaining winds, until the 25th of march, the date when the wind started to blow again, even if it took a couple of days to really stabilize, by now the windspeeds have gone up to a steady 35 knots with even stronger gusts, for the joy of the few remaining tourists. The fact that the Canadian Air Transat and french XL Airlines had their last Charter flight for 2011 last Wednesday is clearly visible in El Yaque as on and off water it became much calmer.
