State of Emergency  30.11.2010

Hard Rainfalls continue

The very hard rainfalls of the past week and the last two days forced the venezuelan Government to declare state of emergency also for the state of Nueva Esparta, so also the Island of Margarita, after six venezuelan states were living with the emergency alert already for a couple of days, especially the state of Falcon is suffering most, but also in the rest of Venezuela massive floods caused some damages. El Yaque luckily is not hit that hard by the rain. Of course there could be a nicer situation than living with constant rainshowers, but at some parts of the Island, the Village of El Valle and the City of Porlamar many mainroads are converted into rivers and people are working hard, day and night to keep the damage level as low as possible.

Time´s tickin´ on Construction Site  29.11.2010

Actual weather situation doesn´t favor new Buildings

A lot has happened in El Yaque in the past three years, the village has started to grow rapidly and even with less tourists, many airplane companies stopped their flights to Margarita, venezuelan constructors are certainly happy about all the new plans and buildings in El Yaque. After some very nice Posadas have been built in the past two, three years, a couple of new ones were keen to open before Christmas 2010. With the actual weather situation and especially if the rain will continue for a couple more days, this might become pretty much impossible. But pretty sure in the first quarter of 2011 El Yaque will see some new and nice houses, Posadas and even small shopping mall a little further into the year

Aaand Action  27.11.2010

Sunny Day brings crowds back to the beach

After all the rain in the past days, with the first sunshine the people are back at the beach, the venezuelan Beach beauties to show their newest implants, families to enjoy another sunny weekend and forget all the cleaning after the flood, at least for a while and since also the wind found his way back to El Yaque, it looked like a really action loaded day, compared to what has been during the past week

Just the theme to talk about  26.11.2010

Hard rains continue

Certainly there could be more interesting stories about some incredibly sunny and windy days, massive Windsurf and Kite Shows by the the El Yaque Local Heroes, but at the moment there is just that one theme to talk about not only in El Yaque, at the Island of Margarita and the venezuelan Mainland as well. The hard rainshowers, bucket loads of water which come down to earth and sea in huge quantity, flooded already some streets and parts of the cities. There might be a couple more of very wet days and nights before the weather situation clears and the wind might get its pass through and the sun will be back for the typical days in the caribbean

Campello brings home the Cup  24.11.2010

Pro Windsurf Tour has finished

The 2010 Pro Windsurf Tour of the PWA has just finished at the Cape Verdian Island of Sal with the last Wave Event of the Season. Number two ranked El Yaque Local lost against the next El Yaque Local Diony Guadagnino in hist first round heat but since the conditions in the end were just not what a Windsurf Worldcup needs, the waves just to small and the windspeeds around 7 - 10 knots, the Competition had to finish without official result and so Campello defended his second place of the 2010 Wave Rankings and brings back the Cup he just received as vice Worldchampion in Pro Wavesailing.

Liquid winds  23.11.2010

More rain to come

The month of November in most parts of the world means drastic weather changes, in some parts the Snow starts while in the southern part of this earth the summer is just to begin. For El Yaque and the Island of Margarita it seems like a little present box, where you mostly don´t know what will be in there. In very good years, when opening the packagge, a strong breeze hushes out to pull the Wind and Kitesurfers over the water, in normal years one might get splashed by opening the Box. As it is this year, tons of rain come down pleasing the plants but not so much the people leaving close to those plants. Also for this week some hard rain showers are predicted for the entire area, most probably in company of some stormy winds, good enough for some fun sessions with a little northern europe feeling

Campello and Guadagnino fighting it out  20.11.2010

Venezuelan Pro Windsurfers have to battle in first round

It is the last Event of the 2010 PWA - Professional Windsurfers Association - Tour, with the crowing of the Worldchampion in the Wave Discipline and two Venezuelans and El Yaque Locals travelled to the Cape Verdian Island of Sal not only to be part of the Show. Ricardo Campello fights for his first Worldchampion Title in Waves ever and Diony Guadagnino wants to proof once again his incredible skills in Wave Sailing. Unluckily the seeding of the Heats shows Campello and Guadagnino together in the first round Heat, so only one could advance, if it would have been Guadagnino, he would have destroyed Campello´s dream, for now. And that is actually what happened, with some big rides and aerials he could bring the Judges on his side and kicked out Campello who was sailing aggressive to show that he wants to get up to the Top, by a very close call, maybe the closest seen so far, by the Judges.

POW Number II   18.11.2010

Second November week cries for new Images

More than half of the month November has passed, a month which can be just great, sunny, windy not too hot and quite some people already filling up the Hotel Rooms, but also can be still part of the rainy season with some hard rainfalls at night and in some occasions also during the day and the wind still with no decision if to blow or not yet. November 2010 showed us both sides so far and of course 1498 offers you the images....  see Pics of the week

Dominant Grey  17.11.2010

Rain is back at full force

After a couple of sunny blue sky days with some wind blowing along the shores of the Island of Margarita, it was kind of hard to tell if it was still night or already day by waking up the morning of the 17th. Dark grey skies and pooring rain surprised most people as it seemed the rainy season might get calmer now, but as history told already, in a normal winter season those greyscale days can happen more than once but won´t dominate the weather.

About that Sea Breeze  16.11.2010

What is that wind can do

Probably one has to be Wind or Kitesurfer, maybe Sailor, to understand this special type of human, that can sit at home, check all weather forecasts one can ever imagine, go or drive a dozen times to the Beach to check if bad forecasts might have been wrong and if it was true check again if it might have changed. In El Yaque it has been kind of funny in the pat three, four weeks, watching not only the El Yaque Pro´s like Gollito Estredo, Yoli de Brendt or Deivis Paternina but also all the faces of the young new El Yaque Wind Kids, how their faces got longer and longer, with the words coming out of their mouths getting fewer and fewer at the same time. Yesterday out of a sudden they all started to sing on the streets, talk to the people, have a good time at the Bar with the tourists, reason, the wind has been back and finally could spend quite some time on the water, as already said, a special kind of human.

1498 Sunday Report SUP

It´s been a while ago that some people started to shout to those who were just using there muscle power to get into the mountains of water and had to use all their energy to get on one of those nice waves for a long ride ( if the choice was ok) if they still don´t know that there was an easier way to get out to sea and through massive white water than swimming. read complete report...

Hurricane Project  13.11.2010

Windsurf and Kitesurf Contest at Adicora

It was called the Hurricane Project "Proyecto Huracan", the first oficial Windsurf and Kitesurf Competition of the always growing venezuelan Tour and even if the wind didn´t even come close to Hurricane Speeds (luckily) it has just been enough for some Slalom Races and Kiteshow. The Windsurf Freestylers had to make use of a Jet Ski for a Tow Inn Freestyle Session. Winner of the Slalom Contest has been Diony Guadagnino in front of Freestyle Worldchampion Estredo. Guadagnino had to pack his gear right after the pricegiving to make it to Cape Verde on time where he will join Yaque Local Campello for the last and deciding World Tour Contest, starting tomorrow 14th of November. Guadagnino is well known as a person who spends most of his Lifetime searching for Waves and ripping the biggest Breaks possible.

Showdown for Campello  12.11.2010

Yaque Local gets chance to be number one

Starting the 14th of November, El Yaque local, three times Freestyle Windsurf Worldchampion and actual number two in worlds Pro Waveriding Ricardo Campello will get the chance to fight for his first Waveworldtitle during the 2010 PWA Cape Verde Wave Worldcup at the Island of Sal, one of the Cape Verde Islands westerly of the african continent. Campello went already a couple of days ago to get well prepared at the hardcore breaks of the Spots, as did his biggest opponent and Tour Leader Victor Fernandez.

El Yaque through the lens  11.11.2010

New Pics of the week online

Even if it is still a little calm and the wind doesn´t blow as strong and as consistant as wished, still there are many nice impressions every singke day in and around the Caribbean Village. Some of those are now visible and ready to be seen at the new Pics of the week.....

About drought and waterproblems  10.11.2010

Dry El Yaque and Margarita

Asking some of Margarita tourists about a drought, with shocked faces they will ask if there would be no more alcohol for the happy hour drinks, but most probably they will not have noticed the actual waterproblems at the Island and in the past weeks especially in El Yaque. Water trucks deliver enough clean fluids to all Hotels to make normal holidays possible and no one spending holidays at the Caribbean Village has to skip one or the other shower or needs to jump into dry Pools. On the other hand, the Village was suffering of a pretty long drought when the main tube coming from Porlamar burst and needed some time to be repaired before than also the tubes providing the entire Island with fresh water had to be repaired. By this weekend the problems should be solved.

Snails Start in El Yaque  09.11.2010

Slow start into the season

After a great year, with lots of wind, maybe one of the best years in El Yaque´s short history, the winter Season 2010 - 2011 seams to start very slow, actually as slow as a Snail under narcotics. Still it remains very calm in the Caribbean Village, one reason certainly are much less flights from europe to the Island of Margarita and most people still have to get used to take their way to their winter Windsurf and Kitesurf Destination via Caracas. The still not very best Windforecasts are surely no big help either, but at leats there is daily winds for kitesurfing and some Waves for the Surf Trips almost every day plus some very nice Bike trails to be explored. All Windsurfers should also be relieved when the wind should be back Wednesday and Thursday.

1498 Sunday Report  07.11.2010

Biking Margarita

There is Mountain Biking at the Island of Margarita just that still it has not really been noticed even with quite some local Bike Clubs using the narrow tracks along the Lagoons and through the tropical forests around the Cerro de Copey for long time. Already in the early beginnings of the Windsurfing Clubs in Playa El Yaque those clubs brought some Bikes to the Island...  see full report ...

Campello goes Cape Verde  06.11.2010

El Yaque local gets chance for Wave Worldtitle

Three times Freestyle Worldchampion and actual number two in worlds Pro Wave Windsurfing Tour Ricardo Campello left is Campello Windcenter in El Yaque a couple of weeks ago to Maui / Hawaii to train for the last Wave Event of the 2010 PWA Worldtour at Sal - Cape Verde with its well famous break of Punta Preta, one of the fastest waves in the world and the place where the El Yaque Local could make another of his dreams make come true by winning the World Champion Title in Waves. His Opponents, number one Victor Fernandez, but also former Worldchampion Kauli Seadi and actual Champ and Cape Verde Local Josh Angulo will make Campello´s life hard and the way to the crown pretty long. 1498 El Yaque News will report from the Contest which starts November 14th.

Zabala at PKRA Worldcup Argentina  05.11.2010

Aquiles Zabala holds up venezuelan Flag in cold Argentina

El Yaque Local and Venezuela´s Top Kiteboarder in Freestyle, Aquiles Zabala went to the PKRA Kite Worldcup in Argentina, where at the lake Nahuel Luapi at Bariloche the Creme de la Creme of worlds Kiteboarding is fighting for Top honours and valuable points for the world ranking. While british Andy Yates is currently leading the Worldtour ahead of actual Worldchampion Kevin Langeree from the Netherlands, Zabala made his way up to a very good ninth place so far. The Conditions surely are not the easiest with hard and cold winds blowing over the Lake while the mountains around it are already partly covered with snow.

New wood to safe Beach  04.11.2010

Wavebreaker getting fixed again

While some of the Windsurf and Kitesurf Centers, especially at the downwind side of El Yaque Beach, had to be cleaned of sand and mud after Storm TOMAS and the surfers had their fun on the water with some nice waves, exactly those waves managed to break the El Yaque Pier, which was built not exactly to calm waves but more the current which was taking away the sand of the Main Beach, already for the second time within six weeks. New Wood and sandbags should stabilize the "Wavebreaker" for now and hopefully will get back to its daily work of stopping the current and keep El Yaque Beach as we all know it.

Westerly surprise  03.11.2010

West Storm took El Yaque by surprise

In the night of Tuesday to Wednesday the Island of Margarita and El Yaque were caught by surprise, when a very strong westerly thunderstorm with hard rainfalls took its way right over the southern caribbean. With ninety nine percent of north east winds throughout the year, most buildings are constructed the way to be well protected of easterly winds and rainfalls, so luckily no major damages were caused by the very hard winds in company with tons of rain, while the ferry ports closed their doors until the rough sea created by the storm will calm down and make secure Trips possible.

Silence - before and after the Storm  02.11.2010

The Storm has passed by and it has been much more quiet and relaxed than expected in the beginning. Was this silence during and after Storm TOMAS possibly the silence before the next storm, the storm of tourists who might arrive at the Island for their winter wind holidays. Most Businesses in El Yaque and on the Island are certainly hoping that it will be the case since tourism numbers are going down with less flights coming to the Island of Margarita, but maybe the flood of tourists will be as nice as the real Waves in the past days have been in El Yaque....   You can see more Images in the new Pics of the week

Abnormal Weathersituation ?  01.11.2010

Hurricanes and rain in the Caribbean

Certainly the first Image in anybody´s head by hearing the word Caribbean will be a nice white sandy Beach with some Palmstrees, cristal clear water and sunshine. Most time of the year that is indeed the fact, but at the moment most Caribbean Island suffer with just too much rain and Hurricanes. But is that really that extraordinary ? No, actually the actual weather situation....  read all.....
