Abnormal Weathersituation ?  01.11.2010

Hurricanes and rain in the Caribbean

Certainly the first Image in anybody´s head by hearing the word Caribbean will be a nice white sandy Beach with some Palmstrees, cristal clear water and sunshine. Most time of the year that is indeed the fact, but at the moment most Caribbean Island suffer with just too much rain and Hurricanes. But is that really that extraordinary ? No, actually the actual weather situation is what happens usually between July / August and November December. It could easily be called the rainy season and indeed this is the time of the year with less sunshine and hard rainshowers, at least for the Island of Margarita. For the rest of the Caribbean Islands it means also an permanent Hurricane Alert, when the big storms build up over the atlantic ocean or even coming over the atlantic ocean from the african continent just to increase and chase for more energy over the warm waters of the Caribbean.

While in 2009 the Hurricane Season seemed to be a very harmless one, with only few and not really powerful super storms, in 2010 the number of Tropical Storms and Hurricans will be much higher and still it is not over.

For the Sailing Communities the 01st of November means the end of the Hurricane Season, but quite often in the past a lack of communication between those Communities and the local Hurricane Factory could be seen.

Actual Storm TOMAS which just built up to a Level 2 Hurricane and which is moving slowly up north the Caribbean, and which was the most watched for all venezuelans for sure, since there was the danger that it would be the first after almost 80 years that might go straight over the venezuelan coast and Islands, was supposed to be the last one in 2010, but already new massive storms are building over the atlantic ocean and might find their way also towards west and so the Caribbean.

Storm TOMAS in the end only sent some bigger Swell than usual towards the Island of Margarita, some short Rainshowers and, as all Hurricanes and Tropical Storms do, sucked the wind which was supposed to blow especially into El Yaque Bay, to enforce himself.
