Killer Mountain Challenge 2011

The second edition of a really challenging Bike Contest

In 2010 the canadians Al and Nora, running the Casa Nora Posada including Bike Tours, organized the Killer Mountain Challenge for the very first time. Killer Mountain at this caribbean Island ? Indeed the name juts tells the truth. The Competitors of the Killer Mountain Challenge have to go uphill, on a very steep and technical track and only very few of them are able to make it all the way up, if they do, there is no time to celebrate, five more "Killer Mountains" are waiting to be climbed by Mountain Bike.

The anual Event in 2011 took place in the very early morning hours to avoid the sun and heat as much as possible, but all Bike Fanatics, coming from Venezuela, Switzerland, Latvia and Canada, made it on time to Casa Nora to get a nice group Bike Ride as warm up before the Challenge.

The two venezuelans Joel and Ronny were the first two trying their luck or better, showing their skills going up that steep dirt track and they both made it halfway up before they stepped foot on the ground which significates that the race would be over.

Canadian Dave was next and made it up almost to the marks, the two venezuelans had left where they finished.

The Killer Mountain Challenge Big names were now up to battle it out, would swiss Bike Pro and Tour Guide be able to get the title this year, or would the canadians Al or Jason hold up the trophy in his hands at the end of the Contest  ?

First up was swiss Bidu, but he had to stop his first attempt pretty early when he slipped on the very loose stones and crashed, he would have two more attempts to go. Al came up almost to Bidu´s mark and would need the next to attempts to possibly make it all the way up. Jason instead made climbing that nasty hill look pretty easy and with attempt one he made it already all the way Mountain one and went onto Mountain two....  where he got stopped and send back down hill one to give it another try.

Meanwhile all other Competitors had given it already another try but still didn´t make it all the way up, so pressure on them now for their last attempt, while Jason was easing downhill with already one succesful ride in the pocket.

Favourite of being next to make it all the way up and possibly even further was Bidu and he could handle the pressure and this time push the pedals and his Bike to make it up and challenge the next Killer Mountains, while Al crashed only a few meters before the Top. But Bidu shouldn´t be alone hiking the next hills, Jason made it up once again but let Bidu start first at Mountain No 2. This one is much shorter but also much more technical and steeper, too much for Bidu today. Jason, already winner of the Challenge wanted more. He climbed Mountain No 2 and No 3 before giving it a try to set a new record on Mountain No 4 and he really made it further up than anyone before, big cheers for the canadian and time to get back to El Yaque for the pricegiving at Casa Nora. At night the second Killer Mountain Challenge was celebrated with Pizza, drinks and the Foto presentation of the Challenge at the "La Chiva Loca"  Bar.
