The newborn adult

It is celebrating its 21st Birthday, but it seems as contrary to as it happens to human beings, the Village of El Yaque, which has been discovered in the late 80´s and got famous in 1990 as a Top winter Windsurf Destination, was going backwards. The german Charchulla brothers, who travelled the world with their sailing boat and discovered quite some of the most famous Windsurf Spots, ankered their little ship in front of the coastline of the Island of Margarita, just because it has been too windy to continue and as Windsurf pioneers this Spot just had to be discovered. Still they didn´t know the name of the very little fishermen village with no road connecting it to the rest of the Island, only a dirt track brought some fish traders into the Village and the fishermen out. 

just full of enthusiasm the Charchullas bought their first land in El Yaque before heading back home to Germany and to tell stories about the new Spot. Only short time after the first Hotels have been built and the Spot became one of the most famous in the windsurfing world. In fast forward mode 10 new hotels and 8 Windsurf Centers were built and still were just not enough for the high amount of Windsurfers who wanted to spend their winter holidays at this windy caribbean beach. A new Spot which almost started with a peak, people started to invade the windy village from the beginning. More than ten years a lot of pleasure and great lifestyle was given to the people coming to El Yaque. Beachparties and Beachbars were full and with great atmosphere and all Windsurf Centers were working hard to just be better than the neighbor center.

With the start of the new Millenium, some new Spots in Asia and Brasil were discovered and El Yaque got some less Windsurfers as usual but the Kitesurfers started to explore the Spots around the Island of Margarita and at the Island of Coche. 

One or the other year with less wind than usual left a not ideal impression, especially  for those who came to El Yaque for the first time during a low windy season, behind, a wavy year swept almost the entire Beach with all his Palmtrees away and latest after some mayor Beer brands and TV stations started to promote El Yaque Beach as the new VIP and party Beach, especially during the easter week, a whole new image was created. Instead of chilly windsurf holiday impressions people now got the images of a beach packed with party people in their heads. This new type of clients also made the service and standards change slightly and a rainy season with just too many people getting ill almost put an end to the Spot. A lot of bad gossip was going around, with the internet faster than ever expected and El Yaque was left behind with the task to learn and start all over again. The Village had to be invented again, had to be born again. 

Some Windsurf Clubs closed, some new Kitesurf Centers opened, but some people remembered the great potential of this tiny, windy caribbean Spot, and started to build new Posadas with high standard rooms and set a new Level in El Yaque. The Hotels had the choice of following or loosing it all. Competition it was in the end, what made the Village improve again and bring life back, even if this will be the next mission, to show the world that this Windsurf and now also Kitesurf Community hasn´t lost its flair and is willed to start over again. Besides the new Posadas, the fully renovated Hotels and quite some Beachbars a big step forward has been done, the Semana Santa Party crowds have found new places to celebrate whatever they celebrate, the Wind Centers have worked hard to create a whole new ambience and their offers are beyond the windy sports, the new date of birth is still not set, but El Yaque just deserves to see the light soon.
