PWA Worldcup Cold Hawaii Denmark 2001
El Yaque is very well known for its Top Windsurfers, especially with three times Freestyle Worldchampion Ricardo Campello and four times Freestyle Worldchampion Gollito Estredo as native citizens. Both of the Top Freestye Windsurfers have started to fight also in the number one discipline of the Sport, in Waveiding, to fight for honours. Campello already started a couple of years ago and got quite some impressive results in his portfolio until today, while actual Freestyle Guru Estredo is sailing his first complete Wave Tour.
The north of Denmark so also the very far north of Europe, the region of Thy and especially the small Fishervillage of Klitmöller is known already for many years for its great Waves and hauling winds, only the airtemperatures and watercoulour make visible that on is not ripping Hawaiiest finest Wavebreaks, that´s also a reason why the Spot is cold Cold Hawaii and so is the first PWA Wave Worldcup in Klitmöller ever.
Ricardo Campello took the long way up northern Europe as number three in the 2010 PWA rankings and with the big objective to even improve his result and get into the fight for the 2010 Wave Worldchampionchips. The fact that usually the windforces and directions in Klitmöller are more or less Campello´s favourite might have helped, if they wouldn´t have been also for his biggest opponents Victor Fernandez and Philip Köster.
But both, Campello and Estredo started really well into the Competition. A big low pressure zone found its way over Britain up North and send some very nice Swells, which reached up to 4 meters, for the Top Waveriders in the world. Estredo could win against his first three opponents before he got stopped and finished 9th in this first round. Campello was even more on fire and went through Heat after Heat right up into the final against his friend and three times Wave Worldchampion Kauli Seadi. The more experienced Wave Sailor Seadi managed to stop Campello´s run with a very close decision by the PWA Judges.
Before the winner of the first round can claim victory, he has to wait for the double elimination, the also called Loosersround, which gives all riders a second chance to get up to the Top Places, and for the winner of that elimination so the Super Final between the winners of both rounds can be sailed and decides the actual winner of a Competition. Estredo had some very bad luck in the double elimination, when a very heavy storm with hard rainshowers and ice cubes falling from the sky hit the riders and Estredo even had to stop his Heat and was kicked out. Campello was still waiting in second place, which could ease him into first position of the world rankings if his strongest opponents Köster and Fernandez would not make their way up to sail with him. Especially spaniard Fernandez, the actual Tourleader didn´t want to loose his top Ranking and after having lost his first heat in the first round he started the Double Elimination on a mission and kicked out one after the other and even Köster could not stop his run, so it came to the showdown for the place in the superfinal : Campello vs Fernandez. It became clear that Fernandez with all the Heats he had sailed throughout the day he got used to the very tough conditions, while Campello just couldn´t find the right perfect Waves for his rides and jumps and so had to be happy with a third place which still brought him up onto second place in the 2010 overall rankings. The first superfinal was won by Fernandez which meant that there ha dto be a resail, only when you loose twice you´re out. The second final went to Seadi and so also the win of the 2010 Coldhawaii PWA Wave Worldcup.

Campello wins Super Session
After the official Wave Competition was over, there were still two days remaining before the 2010 Cold Hawaii would be over and the wind got stronger while the waves also kept on growing, so a Jump Super Session was started. The riders got 20 minutes to perform their most extreme Jumps. As one of the favourites Ricardo Campello was a little lucky to get into the final and also Gollito Estredo only made as one of the best second ranked of the semifinal into the final, where six sailors were up to battle for the pricemoney. This time Campello managed to find better ramps and with a huge stalled double forward Loop he could win that final in front of Victor Fernandez and Gollito Estredo who made the crowds scream with a super high Shaka and a clew first Airchachoo.
