PWA Wave Worldcup Tenerife
Campello back on PWA Wave Podium after two Events of five Events
Worlds Top Waveriders in Windsurfing moved over to the Canary Island of Tenerife right after finishing the Worldcup at Gran Canaria. It was the first time in 15 years that the PWA Wave Worldcup was held at the Cabezo Bay in El Medano, but the setup was perfect, nice sets of waves rolling in with a little less wind than at the high wind Contest at Gran Canaria, where skyhigh Jumps were counting very high, while at Tenerife the scoring system would be slighty different with less Jumps but more Waves to count.
El Yaque Local Ricardo Campello came to El Medano with a fourth place at the Gran Canaria Worldcup in his bag, wanting more at Tenerife.
The conditions were great, nice Waves and a bit lighter winds made the PWA Headjudge start the Contest right away. Again many spectators found their way south to watch worlds best Wavesailors battling for Worldcup points. So did Campello, riding and jumping hard, doing his best to make his way all up to a podium place, until he got stopped in the quarterfinals, big upsad for Campello, but it shows how high the Waveriding level is and that anybody could possibly beat anybody. Big surprise of the Single Elimination became australian Jager Stone by finishing second, the Judges seemed to really like his waveriding style and timing in the waves.
But still it wasn´t over, the Double Elimination had to be sailed and Campello would get another chance to improve his result and so also climb up the ladder in the year´s overall rankings.
With radical Waverides and solid Jumps Campello managed to defend his place and make it up a few more Heats before he got stopped again and had to be happy with a fifth place. In the overall Ranking he still made it up a place and finds himself now on a podium place, with brasilian Kauli Seadi and german Philip Köster, who also won this Event after winning the previous Gran Canaria Event, in front.
In a Jump and Waveriding super session the day after, Campello sailed himself into the Top Ten which won some rides in the artificial Wave of Tenerife´s waterpark.
The next PWA Waveworldcup will be held in Klitmoller - Denmark in September.
