El Yaque Resume 2010
The Black & White year
Actually for the second El Yaque Resume of 1498 El Yaque News the Headline White & Black would have been a little more appropiate, but let´s start from the beginning with the resume of 2010 in the windy village of El Yaque.
In El Yaque´s history, the new year always started with some wind for a Windsurf or Kitesurf Session the first of January. Well, the first day of 2010 became the first none windy day after some amazing months, actually almost too amazing and nowadays almost unbelievable how good the wind statistics have been in autumn and winter 2009. There was no doubt that when falling asleep at night the next day one would wake up with the palmtrees bending over in the strong winds. Certainly for all tourists it just was paradise for winter wind holidays, especially since it hasn´t rained for the same amount of time neither, another pretty unusual fact to happen.
With quite some new Posadas being finished, new Restaurants opened and new Bars competing for the best atmosphere and Live Acts at the Beach, the Village appeared like it has has in "the good old times " with some amazing sessions on the water, some great Happy Hours afterwards and even better Chill Out to finish the day and enjoy a great holiday in true caribbean ambience.
Reason, why an entire year has been that sunny and that windy has been the weather phenomenon of El Nino, which has just done a great Job, at least until March, when it started for the first time to fail once in a while before stopping to work for almost three weeks. Time for other and partly new activities. Mountain Bike Rides were offered during the entire season but not many people made use of it due to the strong winds, same to the Stand Up Paddle Surf, and why making Tours over the Island when it is windy every day and you can do what you came here for in first place. The dropping winds gave the opportunity to finally go also on a Bike Ride, the "Killer Mountain Challenge" organized by Al and Nora took place, more and more people started to stand on some big Surfboards, paddeling along the coast and the pure beauty of the Island was explored again by more tourists and indeed, the Beaches in the north of the Island of Margarita put on their most pretty dresses to show off.
After Carnaval and some local festivities, the absolute peak season was still to come, Semana Santa. Images of the past years are still visible, but question was if it would be that crowded, or better that totally over crowded again ? Actually it all became a little more quiet and shifted from a pure Party Event week into a family affair, at least at most parts of the Beach. Only in front of the Cafe Local, Yaque Paradise and especially the Shampam Bar the party was on and the beauties from the venezuelan mainland once again came over to El Yaque to party at those Locations, lot´s of DJ´s and Bands came over to play almost 24 hours per day and as usual already at day one after the Semana Santa, it became more quiet than ever, the season was almost over and only few people found their way into the Caribbean, and those who came, got pretty lucky. The wind was back for a while and almost no people sailing.
The El Yaque Windsurf and Kitesurf Season was over for now, but the Season for the El Yaque Pro Sailors at the Worldcups was just about to begin. Worldchampions Gollito Estredo and Ricardo Campello, Yoli de Brendt and Diony Guadagnino were the most known names fighting for honours and titles, but also a new face went on Pro Tour for the first time, Deivis Paternina joined Freesytle Worldchampion Gollito Estredo for the Worldtour and to get some experience. How much all those guys and girls could train in the past winter was clear pretty soon. Gollito Estredo put himself up onto the Top podium place almost immediately, while Deivis Paternina became one of the Top Rookies on Tour. Estredo managed to secure his worldchampion title already at Fuerteventura, with still one more Event to go, Campello got into the Top Three of worlds finest Waveriding with still two more Events to go and Yoli de Brendt was celebrating her vice worldchampion title. Campello went to the last Event of the year, at CApe Verde with a great opportunity to grab his first World Title in Waveriding, but things didn´t really work out and he had to be happy with a equal great second place.
While the Pro´s were still travelling the world, fighting for titles, in El Yaque the little darker side of the year had begun. Not only because of the massive black clowds and the pooring rain almsot every day which caused some mayor floods in the entire country and made many people suffer, also were there less direct flights to Isla Margarita by now and the Village pretty empty almost until christmas and the none existing wind for a longer period was not exactly what was needed to cheer people up. Meanwhile even more new Posadas were built and Restaurants open, right on time for a christmas season which became one of the most crowded in the still young El Yaque history.
